“Backflow Coast to Coast”
This years speakers are from East & West Coast Canada and the United States with years of experience in Backflow! Featuring everything you want to know about backflow and more! Including the following:
Death of Leaded Bronze
- Lead has been a small part of the composition of bronze alloys for over 3,000 years. Now with the increasing awareness to remove lead from the water passageway, bronze has to change. This presentation will show why we used lead, and what we will be using in the very near future and what it means to our future backflow prevention products.
Premise vs. Zone Surveys
- What is the difference? Each municipality has a different by-law. What does the Ontario Building Code state? What ARE the requirements for new buildings? For existing buildings? Why the difference? These and many more questions answered.
M.O.E. Cross Connection Control Steering Committee
- What’s Happening in Ontario… Find out from the Ministry of the Environment’s Cross-Connection Control Steering Committee what will happen in Ontario with regards to Backflow.
Evaluation on Cross Connection Control Programs in BCA
- Reducing the health hazard risks to the public drinking water supply that are caused by backflow. This evaluation enabled water suppliers to share their experiences with health officials and address the inconsistencies in implementing and operating CCCPs. Help establish a clearly defined framework of the type of CCCP to implement and operate. Communities without an established CCCP are at high risk for potential cross-connection backflow.
Emergency Response Plan to a Backflow Incident
- An effective cross-connection control program should have an emergency response plan. When a backflow incident occurs, people involves need to know how to respond properly and efficiently. This presentation will discuss the important parts of an emergency response plan and outline how to write a plan, disseminate the information and ensure understanding.
Hydraulics and How Backflow Happens
- Understand the basic properties of hydraulics such as pressure and velocity, and how backflow prevention assemblies operate under various hydraulic conditions. The presentation will show how backflow happens and the hydraulic principles present.
Halton’s 2008 Children’s Water Festival
- Presentation of the 2008 Halton Children’s Water Festival and the role that O.B.P.A. played in the festival. Will present slide show of the activities and discuss the importance of youth participation in backflow.
